2025 Guidelines
American Heart Association PALS Provider Course
Blended Format
HC PALS HeartCode (Online Component) must be completed before your scheduled skills session
You MUST complete your PALS HeartCode online portion prior to the start of class (including the survey). To participate in the skills session, you must provide your HeartCode completion certificate (printed or emailed in advance).
HeartCode Requirements
  • HeartCode must be completed prior to the start of class, including the survey.
  • To receive your HeartCode completion certificate, all modules and the course survey must be completed.
  • Bring a printed copy of your certificate or email it to gwtrainingcenter@mfa.gwu.edu prior to class.
If HeartCode is not completed
You will not be admitted to the skills session and will not be eligible for a refund. You will be required to register and pay for a new skills session.
HeartCode Access Instructions
  • HeartCode access is included in the course price.
  • HeartCode access will be sent to the email address used at registration within two business days.
  • Use the link in your HeartCode email or go to the AHA eLearning website and enter your code.

What’s Included in the Course
  • Online HeartCode blended learning access, including a Provider Manual eBook.
  • In-person skills practice and testing session.
Skills session format
  • Orientation to the simulation manikin, cardiac monitor, and BLS/ALS airway equipment.
  • Skills testing following the orientation.
  • Curriculum review is limited; formal instruction on algorithms is not provided.
Required stations
  1. Management of a pediatric respiratory arrest, including BLS ventilation with a bag-valve mask and oral and nasal airways.
  2. One-person CPR and AED BLS cardiac arrest management for the pediatric patient.
  3. PALS megacode with rhythm recognition, pharmacologic and electrical interventions, and post-resuscitation care.
  4. PALS megacode involving treatment of either a respiratory or circulatory emergency.

If a station is not successfully completed, one reattempt will be permitted the same day. If unsuccessful, remediation and retesting at a later date will be required.

Online eLearning Course Information

The American Heart Association eLearning course is an alternative to the traditional classroom course and must be completed prior to the skills session.

  • The online PALS course takes approximately 8 hours to complete.
  • If an online module is not successfully completed in two attempts, the traditional course will be required.
  • For technical issues, contact AHA technical support at 888-242-8883 (9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday).
Additional Terms and Information
  • This is a practical skills practice and testing session only.
  • Many participants find this type of recertification challenging and may require additional education.
  • Refunds are not issued for unsuccessful completion, and funds are not applied toward additional training.
